Don't Worry, Be Happy:
When we dedicate ourselves to the use of justifiable force, it can consume a part of your life. Thinking about why people do horrible things to each other, and how we can be more prepared can be exhausting. It can also change our mentality toward others. We read account after account of how people are violent to one another, and we start seeing everyone as a potential threat.
What we need to remember is that most people you encounter are NOT going to harm you. Most people you see don't even think about what the word "violence" actually means to them. And for this reason, we need to be aware of how we present ourselves to the world. If we take on the demeanor of the wolf, we do the world a disservice.
Remember that, ultimately, we are doing the things that keep us safe so we can enjoy our life free of fear. Don't let the awareness of violence alter the person you are. Do not get so focused on protecting your family that you forget to enjoy them.
"Don't let your desire to protect your life keep you from living a life worth protecting." -Melody Lauer
